Camp Artemis and Artemis Leadership Training Adventure (ALTA) are the two parts of an exciting and innovative outdoor leadership program. This program is part of the Girl Scouts of California's Central Coast and provides girls with the opportunity to discover, connect, and take action, leading to the development of life-long leadership. Camp Artemis is normally located in Central California's beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains and is a week-long outdoor residential camp. With COVID-19, Camp Artemis will be a "Camp in a Box" this summer.
Camper ages are girls entering 4th grade through girls entering 12th grade for Virtual Camp Artemis 2021. Camp Artemis is based on the development of leadership and outdoor skills including, but not limited to: backpacking, sleeping in one's own personal tent, archery, swimming, counseling, setting the example, and making new friends. The uniqueness of this program is that it is a camp completely planned, implemented, and directed by girls.
Camp is led by high school aged girls that have previously graduated Phase 3 of Camp Artemis, are entering 9th grade or higher, and have applied, interviewed, and been accepted into ALTA (Artemis Leadership Training Adventure). ALTA is a year-long program that meets for one weekend each month to prepare for camp. On these weekends, we work on outdoor skill building, developing the eleven leadership competencies, and planning the week of camp. We have created a self-sustaining leadership development program, run by girls, for girls, and we have fun in the process.
